The end of another year is approaching. The months that came before seem to have disappeared in a blur. But with a new, exciting year on the horizon, full of fresh opportunity and good intentions. As we get ready for the 2014 wrap up on this eve of the new year, it can be useful to reflect on the year that was.
For me, 2014 came with some big highs and lows, and some very big decisions. I stepped away from the stable corporate position of more than 7 years, choosing to turn my back on financial security, job security and career certainty. But with that, I also chose family over career and decided I would not tolerate corporate bullying, which sadly occurs no matter what level your position sits.
But in turn, I chose to study. To take the leap towards a new career, out of psychology and into education. I also chose a job that allowed the flexibility to be home with my family as often as I liked and essentially became self employed as a contract psychologist. It came and still does come with it’s own challenges and rewards.
We visited a new country, stepping foot in Asia (beyond an airport stop over). We fell in love with Vietnam. The food, the culture, the shopping, the scenery. We will be back. Not to mention the fact that we survived overseas travel with a toddler.
I launched Simplify Create Inspire mid year and even in that 6 month period, the direction has changed more than once but still with that same goal in mind. I will Simplify My Life and I will help others do the same.
After trying most of the year, we finally got our happy baby news, finding out we were expecting number 2 mid next year. The first 3 months were rough. But better days are here. I tried new things, like acupuncture, to get my body ready. Pretty sure it did the job!
Our lovely Lily turned the big 2 recently. How time flies when you’re having fun. We’ve seen her grow from the tiny baby she was, into an incredibly bright, vibrant and independent little girl. There is no doubt she will be the best big sister!
I made another career based mind change, this time deciding I want to focus far more of my time and energy into what I love. Writing. This blog will be a big focus for the new year and I was also lucky enough to branch out further, becoming a freelance article writer for Brisbane Kids website.
But 2015 will be a huge year regardless. With so many exciting plans to share with you all, along with the SIMPLIFY MY LIFE 2015 challenge, to get us all back to basics, removing the unnecessary, the clutter, the negative and the messy.
So while 2014 was great for the most part, 2015 will be BIGGER & BETTER.
