HOW TO MAKE OLD FASHIONED CHOCOLATE SLICe

The steps for this one could not be much more simple.

You only need one bowl and can mix everything by hand, which means no need to get any of your kitchen appliances out! Woohoo!

STEP ONE – Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius for a fan-forced oven. Line a 20 x 20cm square slice tray with baking paper. For oven temperature conversions.

Ingredients in bowl

STEP TWO – Melt butter and whisk together with the egg. Add dry ingredients and mix together well. You will end up with a stiff mixture.

STEP THREE – Press base mixture firmly into the lined slice tray and bake for approximately 25 minutes, until firm. The base will have a crunchy texture rather than chewy.

STEP FOUR – Once you take the slice from the oven, allow it a few minutes to cool while you make your icing. Mix together icing ingredients, adjusting until you reach desired icing thickness.

STEP FIVE – Ice your slice while it is still warm, as this makes it easier to spread the icing mixture. Place your slice in the refrigerator to allow the icing to set. Then cut the slice into squares, ready for serving.

How To Store Chocolate Slice

Keep your chocolate slice stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Room temperature is fine.

If you wish to freeze your slice, it will keep for up to 1-2 months in a sealed freezer-safe container or in individual freezer bags.

Chocolate Icing Troubleshooting

Chocolate icing on a spoon

If your icing is too runny, mix in a little extra icing sugar until you reach the desired thickness.

Alternatively, if your icing is too thick, add small amounts of boiling water until it reaches the consistency you want for your icing.

You can use a chocolate buttercream icing for your slice instead, however, this will not set as firmly and you will need to store your slice in the refrigerator to prevent it from melting off of the slice.

If your icing is too thick, add a small amount of boiling water until you reach the desired consistency. Alternatively, if it is too runny, mix in a little more icing sugar until it is firm enough.

Store your slice in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
