‘Why is my head so itchy? Maybe I need to change shampoo! Or maybe it’s the change of seasons?’. At least these were the thoughts that went through my head for more than a week recently when itching like crazy. At no point initially did I think I had head lice!
But sadly it was true! I had a head lice outbreak and so did my 3 year old! We weren’t even at school age yet, and already bringing home those dreaded nits!
Once the possibility that we had headlice sunk in, I decided to grab a headlice shampoo while out grocery shopping. I went with the cheapest one in Woolworths, assuming it would still do the job, since tackling head lice isn’t something I’ve had to do as a parent (or as an adult!!!).
We persevered through the patient at first 3 year old, who had a near tantrum when it came time to wash her hair. But the treatment did not work! The next day we were both itching just as much as we were before treatment, so I treated us again using the same treatment shampoo.
It still didn’t work!
So we moved onto a different, more well known brand of head lice treatment shampoo. Then the time came to rinse it out and OMG… just horrible. Getting a 3 year old to tilt their head back in the shower is near impossible at the best of times, so she got stinging shampoo in her eyes and bolted out of the shower with shampoo still in her hair, running down her face. There was screaming, tears and just an all round horrendous experience that I never want to repeat.
So when the opportunity to review the Licetec V-Comb was offered, I sure did jump at the opportunity! An electronic device to replace the need for stinky, burning head lice treatment shampoos. Sounded great!
LICETEC V-COMB REVIEW
The Licetec V-Comb is an innovative allergy and chemical free head lice solution that detects and prevents head lice infestations, by eliminating eggs and lice. All you need to do is comb your hair using the V-Comb and the rest is done for you!
The Licetec V-Comb has a vacuuming function that extracts head lice and eggs from your hair into the capture filter. The filter unit is illuminated by an LED light so you can see what has been extracted, making it easy to see if any lice were found in the hair.
The V-Comb comes with disposable filter systems so you can simply detach, seal and dispose of head lice. As it does not use harsh chemicals, it can be used frequently without the risk of irritation and it is reusable, making it very cost effective compared to expensive chemical treatments.
Using the Licetec V-Comb
With a 3 year old who hates having her hair brushed or washed, it is always with some reluctance that she lets me use anything new on her hair… especially after our awful head lice shampoo experience. I can’t really blame her. But thankfully she was willing to let me use the comb on her hair after explaining the purpose and how it worked.
By ensuring her hair was well brushed and knot free first, we had a fairly painless experience combing her hair with the fine toothed V-Comb. By doing small sections, the comb moves through the hair easily and removes anything that may be attached to the hair strand, which we could see appearing in the disposable capture filter.
It was also very easy to use the Licetec V-Comb to do my own hair, which can be really hard when attempting to comb through following treatment shampoo. The gentle vacuum is noticeable during the combing, but it helps remove things that may otherwise have been missed.
The V-Comb plugs into the wall so there is no need to find batteries. It makes a sound similar to a hair dryer on a low setting. This may worry really young children, but the V-Comb is otherwise very easy to use and most of all, chemical free. No more foul smells, stinging eyes or expensive shampoos that don’t even work!
Another Licetec V-Comb Review
A friend also received a Licetec V-Comb to review. She is a parent of 3 primary school aged kids and older kids, having had a long battle of recurring head lice outbreaks with her second youngest daughter.
Here’s what she had to say:
“The Licetec V-Comb was easy to put together and use. It was also a lot quicker than the usual shampoo and comb treatments and a lot less of a hassle with treating all the kids. We would always need more than one treatment bottle, making it a very expensive process over and over again. I love how cost effective the Licetec is and the fact it is reusable for the whole family. We will be putting it to good use if the kids bring home head lice again in future’.
